Itinerary
Fri - Travel to Drymen arriving late afternoon. Settle into your room before your evening meal.
Sat - Today we’ll begin with a visit to Stirling, explore the well-preserved medieval Old Town, wander its cobbled streets to see landmarks like the 15th century Church of the Holy Rude (where infant James VI was crowned in 1567), the atmospheric Tolbooth Jail, and Cowane’s Hospital. Then enjoy the Stirling Smith Art Gallery & Museum’s free ‘Stirling Story’ displays and quirky treasures (including the world’s oldest football!) For an extra charge, you can also take in the royal grandeur and panoramic views from Stirling Castle a magnificent 16th-century royal fortress perched atop Castle Hill. Next, we’ll travel to Dumbarton. Here you’ll have free time for lunch at your leisure in the town centre before visiting the Dumbarton Maritime Museum, located on the historic Denny Shipyard site. Here, hands-on exhibits, detailed model ships, and the world’s first commercial ship-model testing tank offer a fascinating insight into maritime innovation.
Sun - After breakfast we will spend the day exploring two of Scotland’s most iconic landmarks. Start at The Kelpies in Helix Park — towering 30-metre sculptures inspired by Scottish folklore. Enjoy a stroll, visit the exhibition, and snap unforgettable photos. Then head to the nearby Falkirk Wheel, the world’s only rotating boat lift. Watch this modern engineering marvel in action or take a relaxing boat trip as it lifts you between two historic canals.
Mon - After breakfast and a farewell hot toddy we commence the homeward journey.
