Mon – This morning we make our way to Alnwick, travelling through the scenic Northumberland countryside before arriving at the White Swan Hotel. On arrival, check into your room and take some time to relax or explore the town’s historic streets at your own pace. Later, enjoy your evening meal in the hotel’s restaurant.

Tue – This morning, we visit the impressive Ad Gefrin Distillery, an award-winning attraction celebrating the Golden Age of Anglo-Saxon Northumbria. Enjoy the immersive museum experience, learn about the ancient royal court of Yeavering and discover the craft behind their artisan spirits. There will be time to explore the exhibition and visitor centre before returning to Alnwick for a leisurely afternoon.

Wed – Today we travel to the dramatic Northumberland coast to explore Bamburgh Castle, magnificently set on a rocky outcrop overlooking the North Sea. Wander through its grand state rooms, discover its turbulent history, and take in the stunning coastal views. We then continue to the charming harbour village of Seahouses, where you can stroll along the seafront, browse local shops or enjoy a  traditional seaside treat before returning to the hotel.

Thu – Today we journey west to follow part of Hadrian’s Wall, once the northern frontier of the Roman Empire. We visit Roman Vindolanda, one of Britain’s most important archaeological sites, where excavations have revealed forts, settlements and the famous Vindolanda writing tablets. Explore the museum’s exceptional collection of artefacts before continuing to the historic market town of Hexham for a visit to its magnificent Abbey. There will be time to admire the architecture, crypt and cloisters before we make our way back. 

Fri – Enjoy a relaxed breakfast in the hotel before later commencing your homeward journey, bringing your Northumberland adventure to a close.
